poet and novelist, born on 2 july 1935 in milan, lives and works in paris and rome. in the early 1960s, balestrini becomes a member of the poets group “novissimi” and the “gruppo ‘63”, which both brought together neoavanguardia writers. in 1963, he composed the first computer poem. he is the author of the poetic series “miss richmond” and of novels about the political struggle in 1968 and the “leaden time”, for instance “we want everything” and “the unseen”. he played an important role in the birth of the culture magazines “il verri”, “quindici”, “alfabeta”, and “zoooom”.
he is also an active visual artist and exhibits his works in italy and abroad. in 1993, he participated in the biennale di venezia, and in 2012 in the kassel documenta.
