eva-maria geisler

born in 1936 in dresden/blasewitz near the elbe river. she lived through the war years and the bombing of dresden.
at the age of 15, she became a guest student, and at the age of 17 a regular student at the academy of fine arts dresden (hfbk). experiencing problems with the gdr authorities, she fled to west berlin, thus anticipating its hostilities. she continued her studies at the berlin university of the arts. her first impressions of the southern italian volcanic island of stromboli marked her forever. in 1962, she married architect albrecht wagner, and moved to paris with him for two years. there are 3 children from this marriage. back in berlin, she was a fixed element of the west berlin art scene, famous for her huge parties that regularly brought together painters, writers, architects, composers, journalists and many more. in 1982, she married writer gerald bisinger, with whom she had one son. in 1986, the family moved to vienna and became austrian citizens. many works and series were made in ottakring, for instance a series of writers’ portraits for the graz autorinnen autoren versammlung of which she was a member. in her last years, she was the companion of writer andreas okopenko;
she died of cancer in 2005.
